The B____ that is Jet Lag

There is no question, jet lag is a b____. It is our second day back, and the second day in a row we all woke up at 1pm in the afternoon. Not feeling refreshed, mind you, just up after an entire night of tossing, turning, and trying to sleep, finally succeeding at 6am, and then waking intermittently to daytime noises outside and the sun streaming into our room. Between the hours of 12am and 6am, we are restless and awake. We are so exhausted, but at all the wrong times.

These last couple of nights, when Greyson has woken up in the middle of the night in his crib, we've gotten him, given him a snack and then after an hour or so, put him back to bed with us. We did this in Singapore, and it helped to keep him in bed at least until he got over his jet lag and slept through the night, then we didn't have to do it anymore. Sleeping with Greyson has been an experience. He is a fitful sleeper and a chronic spooner. He won't leave me alone and even when asleep, kicks his Papa in the gut and punches me in the face. There is no sleep to be had. I have no idea how parents who co-sleep keep this up. So tonight, we decided, enough was enough. Since Roque goes back to work tomorrow, our plan is that after Greyson's midnight snack, we'll put him down in his room and if he protests, I'll go in and sleep on the floor. This was actually his Gong Gong's suggestion as a compromise between him sleeping with us, and sleeping in his room. His second suggestion was to tell him very boring stories. Sigh. Two weeks of sharing a room with my son and I've lost my nerve to let him "cry it out. Just like the first time, it will all depend on how tired I get. We'll see how tonight goes.
